While an executive producer at BBC 6 Music, I managed a project which brought legendary Sheffield musician Richard Hawley together with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Arranger Joe Duddell scored parts for a selection of Richard’s songs, and the collaboration culminated in a public concert—broadcast live on 6 Music, in its entirety—at a former steelworks in Richard’s hometown.
This project represented a series of exciting firsts: the first time that Richard had played live with an orchestra; the first time that BBC 6 Music had commissioned an orchestral piece for its exclusive broadcast; and the first time that I had worked closely with an arranger and an orchestra.
